Changing children's lives in Lesotho

8 July 2013

Back

The Foundation's initial Lesotho-based grant provided the first HIV medicines for people in Lesotho. We continued our support by funding Riders for Health to mobilise the country's health workers, which resulted in increasing healthcare capacity over five fold.

We continue to support people affected by HIV/AIDS in Lesotho through funding for Sentebale – a children’s organisation, founded by HRH Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho – that aims to help the most vulnerable children living with HIV to access vital health information, life skills and possibly their first chance to safely disclose their HIV status without being bullied or discriminated against.

The children leave the camp having learnt more about HIV, the proper ways to take their medication, gain confidence and a positive outlook towards the future. This is vital because without the right support, over half of all children with HIV will drop out of care.

This video highlights the impact the programme can have on the lives of some of thousands of children in Lesotho living with HIV.
